About

Constitution Island Association cares for Constitution Island, the wooded island in the Hudson across from West Point, in partnership with the U.S. Military Academy, whose land it is. Docent-led tours visit the Warner House, home of 19th-century authors Susan and Anna Warner, who for forty years taught Bible classes to West Point cadets who rowed across the river, along with the historic gardens and Revolutionary War fortifications near the spot where the Great Chain was anchored across the Hudson in 1778. The island is not open to the general public: visits are by tour ticket only, starting at the gate at the south end of the Cold Spring Metro-North parking lot, where a free shuttle takes visitors across (donations welcome). 2026 tours are fully booked, so watch for 2027 dates, or explore the Warner House anytime through the association's online virtual tour.
